The Hyundai Sonata is a midsize family sedan available in GLS, SE and Limited trim levels. Even the base car comes with expected convenience features, while more luxurious features are available in optional packages or in the upper trim levels.
All levels offer an abundance of room, which makes this the perfect car for long road trips through Portland Maine. The Hyundai Sonata is a four-door, five-passenger sedan, powered by a 175-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder, with the choice of a five-speed manual or a Shiftronic five-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 249-hp 3.3-liter V6 mated to a Shiftronic five-speed automatic transmission is also available.
The 2010 Hyundai Sonata is refreshed with improved engine choices, a revised grille and headlights, and chrome accents in the front and rear bumpers.
The 2009 Hyundai Sonata offers AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio with USB and auxiliary jacks, air conditioning, cruise control, and a tilt steering wheel. The SE adds 17-inch wheels, a spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power driver seat and steering-wheel audio controls.
The Limited gets a multi-disc CD changer, a subwoofer/amplifier, and heated front seats. A sunroof and a navigation system are available, and the Sonata now offers an Infinity premium audio system.
The standard engine on each 2010 Sonata trim level is a 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder engine good for 175 horsepower and 168 pound-feet of torque.
A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the GLS and SE trim levels with the four-cylinder, while a five-speed automatic is standard on the Limited and optional on the other trims. Optional on all Sonatas is a 3.3-liter V6 producing 249 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic is the only transmission available with this engine.
Safety features on all Sonatas include the mandatory dual-stage front-seat airbags, front-seat side-impact airbags for torso protection, and full-coverage side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake assist, and electronic stability control with traction control.
Interior room has been a strength of the Sonata since it was last completely redesigned for 2006. Along with the richly appointed cabin, there’s a wealth of usable space inside. The front seats in the SE version are well trimmed and plenty wide for American backsides.
The back seat has legroom that qualifies this as a large car and the seatback is reclined at a perfect degree. Doors open and close with a solid sound, there’s enough trunk room for weeks of luggage, and cupholders and storage abound.
